BURNWORTH William Albert Burnworth, a resident of Confluence for 46 years, died at his home of a heart attack after a prolonged period of poor health. He died at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 10 days, on Thursday, August 5. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Reiber Burnworth, to whom he had been married since December 25, 1896, two daughters, Miss Ruth Burnworth at home and Mrs. Carl Beck, Cumberland, Md. One daughter, Lucille, preceded him in death in 1917. Two granddaughters, Henrietta Lucille Beck and Ruth Ann Beck of Cumberland, one sister, Mrs. James Wilson of Dunbar, Pa, and one brother, Jonathan Burnworth of Confluence, also survive. He was born at Johnson Chapel, September 26, 1872, a son of the late Ziba and Annabelle Flannigan Burnworth. He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church at Johnson Chapel at an early age and transferred his membership to the Confluence church when he became a resident of that place. He served on the official board of the church and was also a member of the Men's Bible class for many years and was president of that class for several years. His loyality, interest and service in his church will long be remembered. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Confluence for 42 years and its secretary at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Macabee Lodge of Confluence. He was an employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, having retired in 1937, after 30 years service. He had been employed at various points as clerk and agent, being employed the greater part of the time at Confluence. His brothers of the Odd Fellows Lodge paid their last respects by holding their ritualistic services at the home on Saturday evening. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist Church in charge of his pastor, Rev. S. L. Burson. Interment in the Baptist Cemetery. The floral tributes were many and greatly appreciated by the family. The active pallbearers were: Grant Pyle, Sam Downs, Sam Firestone, Elliot Beggs, Ray Hyatt, and Scott Smith. The honorary pallbearers were Tome Reynolds, Dr. George Hopwood, Dr. Milton Brooke, Robert Black, Homer Rush, and Ralph Van Sickle. Meyersdale Republican, August 12, 1943
