Butler, 81, of Garrett, formerly of Meyersdale, died Nov. 17, 2003 in Summit Township. Born July 13, 1922, at Keyers Ridge, Garrett County, Md. A son of the late Benjamin and Nora (Durst) Butler. Also preceded in death by his first wife, the former Nellie C. Purnell; a sister, Eleanor; and two brothers: Gordon and Blaine. Survived by his second wife, Mary (Arnold) Werner Butler; numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Goldie Beachy, Grantsville, Md.; six stepchildren: Charlene Wright, Rockwood; Marjorie Bird, Somerset; Brenda Snyder, Rockwood; Richard Bird, Somerset; Clyde Werner Jr., Hooversville and Jennifer Werner, Rockwood. Also 11 step-grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Attended the Hostetler Church of the Brethren. A veteran of World War II where he served in Europe and the Pacific. Former vice president and member of the Meyersdale Borough Council for 14 years. Retired from Clappers Building Materials with 45 years of service. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale where service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Eric Shaulis officiating.
