Although she had been ill about a month her neighbors and friends were not aware of the seriousness of her condition. Mrs. Butler was sixty-three years of age. She was born in Grant County, near Moorefield, W.Va., a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Mary E. Groves. She came to Garrett County with her parents in early childhood and had lived in this section for about fifty-seven years. She married Hampton Butler, a well known Garrett County farmer, forty-four years ago, and for forty-one years they have resided at their home near Jennings. Mrs. Butler was a member of the Methodist Church. She was a woman of admirable character and during her residence here she acquired a large circle of friends. In her passing she leaves her husband and the following children: Harry L. Butler, Cuyahoga Falls, O., Mrs. Roy Patton, Grantsville, Mrs. William Yommer, Mrs. John Campbell and Mrs. Earl Burow, all of Jennings. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. John Blocher, Jennings, twenty-three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Jennings Lutheran Church. Rev. Samuel D. Sigler, pastor of the Grantsville Lutheran Church, officiated. He was assisted by Rev. A. C. Curran, pastor of the Jennings church. Music was furnished by a male quartet from the Salisbury (Pa.) Lutheran church. Serving as pallbearers were Rodney Patton, Harry Patton, Dale Patton, Robert Butler, Robert Yommer and William Yommer, all of whom were grandsons of the deceased. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, July 18, 1940
