Byers, a retired crane operator for the B & O Railroad Company, passed away last Friday morning in the Aspinwall Veterans Hospital, where he had been a patient for many months. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and was aged 69 years at the time of his death. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Habel Byers, and these children: Mrs. Una Lichty and Mrs. Doris Clapper, Meyersdale, Mrs. Louise Philippi, Rockwood, H. Willard Byers, Pittsburgh, and Fern, Blaine and John Byers, at home. He is also survived by five grandchildren and three brothers and a sister: Peter Byer, Harrisburg; Frank Byer, Shelocta; Abe Byer of Lancaster County and Mrs. Mary Whiteman, Lancaster. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Konhaus Funeral Home, Meyersdale, with Rev. Nelson C. Brown officiating. Burial was made in the Reformed Church Cemetery under direction of H. R. Konhaus. Meyersdale Republican, September 4, 1947
