Byrd, 71, of Somerset RD 1, died Monday, July 20, 1987 at his residence. Born April 10, 1916 in Listonburg, Addison Township, he was the son of the late William Lee and Laura Catherine (Shunk) Byrd. Also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Kelly and two brothers, Raymond and Elroy. He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy I. Pugh and these children: Mrs. Jack L. (Janet) Hickey, Harrisburg; and Larry D., Palmyra, Pa.; four grandchildren, Laura and Rebecca Byrd and Scott and Terry Hickey. He was a brother of Mrs. Myrl (Lucille) Ream, Campbelltown; and Mrs. Everett (Betty) Weaver, Somerset RD 1. He was a former coal miner and a retired employee of the Milton Hershey School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and UMWA Local 1742. Friends were received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Charles Olson officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorials contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of the American Heart Association.
