Caldwell, 83, of Swank St., Johnstown, formerly of Somerset, died March 13, 1981, at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1897, in Clearfield County, a son of the late Archie and Ellen (Crawford) Caldwell. Preceded in death by his first wife, the former Eliza Dixon, and also by a son and two sisters. Survived by widow, the former Marguerite Custer; and these children: Mrs. G. H. (Jeannette) Sheffer of Shiremanstown; Mrs. Alfred J. (Ellen) Ferrari, Daytona Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Ralph (Agnes) Bailey, Friedens RD 2; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. He was a brother of: John of Wheaton, Md.; Mrs. Mary Walker, Abbotstown, Pa.; Mrs. Christine Queer and Mrs. Oscar (Margaret) Hay, both of Somerset. Former owner-operator of Caldwell Motel and Caldwell Gasoline Station in Somerset. Friends will be received 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 3-9 p.m. Monday at the Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Paul Knight officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Daily American, March 14, 1981 [C0021]
