Born Oct. 22, 1905 in Smithfield, a son of the late Tony and Caroline Capan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mary Louise Capan who went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in 1995, 2 brothers and 7 sisters. Survived by daughter, Rose Ann Hickle of Berlin and a son, Vincent L. Capan of Fairchance; 3 grandchildren, Tina Louise Cook, Herman Joseph Hickle II and Erik Lee Hickle; 3 great-grandchildren, Ashley Marie and Michael Hickle and Emily Cook; and sister, Grace Sutton of Uniontown. Member of the First Baptist Church of Fairchance, the King's Mens Bible Class and the Fairchance Sons of Italy. Veteran of the U.S. Army from 1930-36 where he was a Farrier at Fort Hoyle and Fort Meade. He began working at age 9, driving a team of horses and at age 12 he was working on the railroad. At age 14 he began working in the local coal mines of western Pa. and labored 44 years in the coal mines and was a member of UMWA Local #1319. He was a good and faithful father whose character was noted by all who knew him. His word was his bond. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and until 11 a.m. Saturday, the hour of service, at the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 W. Church St., Fairchance. Rev. Robert Ford and Rev.
