He was a member of Co. A. 54th Reg. P. V., and was wounded in the Civil War in the battles of Martinsburg and New Market. William H. Carrel was born in Bedford, Pa., a son of George and Katharine (Sipes) Carrel. He was married twice. His first wife, Lucy A. Petriken, died in 1870. His second wife Minerva Baker, of Somerset, with a daughter, Lucy A., wife of Charles A. Neisenberger, survives. By the first union one son, Harry Stanley Carrel, of Johnstown, survives. He is also survived by one sister and two brothers, Mrs. John H. Brown, Alexander Carrel and Anthony Carrel, all of Johnstown. Carrel was a carpenter by trade, and for a number of years worked for the Cambria Steel Company at Johnstown, later being in charge of one of the company's sand crushers at Somerset. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Dr. Hiram King, chaplain of the Somerset G. A. R. Post, interment in Husband Cemetery. The burial services were in charge of R. P. Cummins Post No. 210 G. A. R. and James S. Hinchman Camp No. 122 Sons of Veterans, of Somerset. Meyersdale Commercial, Sept. 25, 1913
