Carter, 79, of Main Street, Mount Savage, Md., died August 24, 1982, at Frostburg Community Hospital, where she had been admitted Aug. 16. She was a charter member and past president of the Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary; a past president of the Allegany-Garrett County Volunteer Firemen's Association Auxiliary; and past president of the Mount Savage Homemakers Club and the Mount Savage Senior Citizens. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Court Theresa, Catholic Daughters of America; and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Born in Mount Savage, she was a daughter of the late Francis J. Miller and Mary Ellen (Kane) Miller. Her husband, Joseph N. Carter, died in 1951. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Shockey, Frostburg, Md.; Sally Tuscan, Meyersdale; Mrs. Mary Lou Dickel, Mount Savage and Mrs. Peggy Whitehead, Morgantown, W.Va.; three sons, Joseph D. Carter, Mount Savage; Dr. John F. Carter, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Thomas W. Carter, Frostburg; one brother, Edmund (Ted) Miller, Cumberland, Md.; 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg. Services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Rev. John Mackey officiating. Interment, Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Thomas Shockey, Louis Tuscano, Joseph Carter, James Dickel, Michael Carter and Michael Martirano with David Dickel, John D.
