Carver Jr., 87, Satellite Beach, Fla., passed away March 5, 2002 after a long illness. Born in Somerset, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine; brother Arthur; three sons, Charles of Montgomery, Ala., Raymond of Hiram, Ga., and Robert of Palm Bay, Fla.; daughter, Lynn of Melbourne, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He graduated high school at 16 and traveled by foot to Detroit, where he worked for Ford Motor Company. Joining the Army Air Corps in 1941, he had a distinguished career through World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring as an Air Force Lt. Colonel in 1961. Taking up residence on the old family farm in Somerset, he became the Executive Director of the Tableland Community Assoc. in charge of all of the federal poverty programs for 18 years.
