Born Dec. 30, 1938, in Quemahoning Township, daughter of Carlisle and Edna (Shaver) Boyer. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, George Hoover. Preceded in death by parents and son, Michael Scott Cassidy, in 1994. Survived by her husband of 52 years, Floyd Cassidy; and five daughters: Marci (Tom) Cosens, Hagerstown, Md.; Brandi (Mark) Darr of Acme; Beth (Mark) Mueller of El Cajon, Calif.; Kelly (Scott) Vanek of Riegelsville; and Amy (Angelo) Donia, Stoystown; daughter in-law: Anne Cassidy, Duluth, Ga; and ten grandchildren; Brian (Liz) Cosens, Brandon, and Sarah Cassidy, JoAnna, John and Joy Mueller, Caitlin and Allison Vanek, Olivia Darr, and Jillian Donia; and one-great- grandchild. JoAnn was a member of Forbes High School Class of 1956, and a 1973 graduate of Somerset Area Practical Nursing Program. She was employed as an LPN for 23 years by Medical Associates in Stoystown, retiring in 2000. JoAnn was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown, serving on several committees and the Altar Guild, Vice President of the Women's Group, Assisting Minister, and President of the Church Council. She also served at the Synod level as a member of the ministry team for "Discerning Your Discipleship" educational programs for training lay persons. An aid sports fan, JoAnn was keenly interested in following the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers, and she also loved watching Pitt Panther basketball games. She loved her home and family, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and traveling. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Stoystown. The Rev. Walter L. Startzel officiating.
