I. du Pont de Nemours Company. His death is believed to have resulted from ptomaine poisoning. Daniel Cauffiel was born in Jenner Township, Somerset County, Pa., June 22, 1868, a son of Daniel and Mary (Hammer) Cauffiel. His father was a charcoal burner. He was educated in the schools of Somerset County. About 40 years ago he operated a stone quarry in Stonycreek Township. Later he became interested in the coal business, having established the Sunnyside Coal Company. He helped T. Coleman de Pont to build the Windber street car line and later assisted Mr. du Pont in building railway lines in the State of Alabama and also in New York State.
