Caulk, 89, retired Garrett County, Md. school teacher, died July 3, 1974, in St. Petersburg, Fla. A native of Wicomico County, she was born Sept. 8, 1884, in Sharpstown, Md. Miss Caulk began her teaching career in 1906 in Bivalve, Md. She continued teaching in various high schools in Wicomico County prior to arriving in Garrett County. She came to Grantsville High School in September 1928, where she taught French and English and served as junior class adviser until June 1949. In September of that year she was transferred to Accident High School. Two years later she went to Oakland, where she taught in the high school until the mid-1950's, when ill health brought her school days to a close. After retirement, Miss Caulk maintained residence in Oakland until September 1971, when she went to live with a sister in Virginia, who died the following year. Since that time, she had been residing with a nephew, Charles E. Nuttall, in St. Petersburg. Memorial service was held in the Downs-Ford Chapel there on Friday, July 12, with the Rev. Robert M. Johnson Jr. officiating. Miss Caulk will be long remembered and held in high esteem for her love and deep understanding she always had for the many students she taught in the Garrett County area.
