Born Oct. 20, 1921, in Salisbury, she is the daughter of the late Frank J. and Sally (May) Newman. The last of seven children, she is preceded in death by, Harry James Newman, Carl J. Newman, John Wilbur Newman, Josephine May (Newman) LaCavera, Lewis Peter Newman and Ruby Katherine Newman. Surviving are two children, Stephany T. Chaconas of Chevy Chase, Md., and Ted P. Chaconas and wife, Terry, Woodbine, Md., and two grandchildren, Sara Ann Chaconas and Matthew Burk Chaconas. Mary Belle worked in Washington, D.C., during World War II for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She later married Theodore Peter Chaconas of Washington, D.C. She and her husband owned and operated the Beef 'N Bun Restaurant in downtown Washington. She was a member of the Salisbury Church of the Brethren. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Salisbury Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Daniel Whitacre officiating.
