WALTER CHANEY

  Walter Chaney, 72, retired farmer of Avilton, Md., died Sunday morning, March 
12, in Alleghany Hospital, Cumberland, where he was admitted February 29.
  He is survived by his wife, Alice (Whiteman) Chaney, and the following 
children: Oscar Chaney, Mrs. Carl Bennett, Mrs. Ernest Hutzell, Mrs. Homer 
Robinson, all of New Jersey; Miss Naomi Chaney, of Frostburg; Pvt. Connel 
Chaney, New Jersey; Miss Naomi Chaney, Baltimore; Lawrence Vern Chaney, at home, 
and Staff Sgt. Paul Chaney, stationed in England, and eight grandchildren.
  Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Hudson Chaney, 
Westernport; Mrs. Laura Glime, Mrs. Pearl Rankin, Frostburg; Mrs. Lily Merrill, 
Avilton; and Mrs. Grace Denning, Stoystown, Pa.
  Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday at the Cherry Grove Church of the 
Brethren, Avilton, by the pastor, Rev. Foster Bittinger.
