Chaplin, 71, of Fairfield Township, N.J., died Feb. 20, 1997, in the emergency room of South Jersey Hospital Bridgeton, N.J. The husband of Jean Harmon Chaplin, he had lived in Fairfield Township for 35 years and prior to that had resided in Somerset. He was born in Melbourne, Australia, and was the son of the late Raymond E. and Lillian Taylor Chaplin. Before his retirement one year ago, he had been employed with South Jersey Hospital System, Bridgeton Division, for 8 years. Prior to that he was a tractor-trailer driver with LoBiondo Bros. in Rosenhayn, N.J., for 27 years. Before coming to Fairfield Township, he had been a driver with Eastern Motor Dispatch and PittsburghNew England Trucking. World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Merchant Marines. Member of Fairton United Methodist Church and the Greenwich Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons: Lynn D. Chaplin Sr. and Raymond "Squeeky" Chaplin Sr., both of Cedarville, N.J., and four grandchildren: Raymond Chaplin Jr., Kyle Chaplin, Lynn D. Chaplin Jr. and Kristin Chaplin. He was predeceased by a sister, Elva Chaplin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Fairton United Methodist Church, Main Street, Fairton, N.J., with Rev. Peter Mowers officiating.
