Charlton, 65, of Berlin RD 3, died Dec. 5, 1986, at his residence. He was born March 25, 1921, in Romney, W.Va., son of the late Paul and Lillie (Dove) Charlton. Also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley; son, Wade; and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, the former Goldie Lois Smith. Death ends a marriage union of 47 years. Survived by these children: Raymond, married to Sandra Yoder, and Allan James, both of Stoystown; Ronald, married to Bonnie Necaise of Georgetown, S.C.; Mrs. Donald (JoAnn) Burkett, Ernest "Terry," married to Grace Dustin, and Mrs. George (Peggy) Ingrodi, all of Berlin; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Cindy) Weigle, also of Berlin; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a brother of: Mrs. Catherine Isgan of Berlin; Mrs. Vernon (Virginia) Yoder, Somerset RD 5; Robert, married to Amelie Ihle, Friedens RD 1; and Donald, married to Marjorie Crum of Stoystown RD 1. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Berlin where he served as elder, deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was a decorated Marine veteran of World War II, having received the Navy Cross and Purple Heart along with other numerous medals and citations. He was a member of VFW-American Legion, Berlin, and DAV. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. The body will lie in state at the Christian Missionary Allianee Church from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m. on Sunday with the Revs. Sherman Berkey and Leonard Day officiating. Interment, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown. Military rites by Berlin Post. If friends desire, instead of flowers, contributions may be given to the Hospice Unit of Somerset Community Hospital or the Alliance Church of Berlin. Daily American, December 6, 1986 [C0308]
