Charlton, 83, Friedens, died Feb. 23, 2008, at his residence. Born Jan. 8, 1925, in Vindex, Md., he is the son of the late Samuel and Virgie (Dove) Charlton. Also preceded in death by his wife, who died Feb. 20, 2008, Betty Jane (Sarver) Charlton to whom he was married 65 years; son, Stanley Vincent; daughter, Mary Jane; great-grandson, Matthew Will; two infant grandchildren; brothers, the Rev. Samuel Charlton, Frank Charlton and Howard Charlton; and an infant sister. Survived by children, Mrs. Van Monroe (Carol Jean) Tressler, Mrs. John (Patricia Ann) Will, Sandra Lynn Lepley, Mrs. James (Nancy Lee) Phillippi, Daniel Bernard Charlton And wife, Karen, and Randy Devon Charlton and wife, Barbara, all of Friedens; 27 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Brother of Fred Charlton, Fortville, Ind.; Jason Ray Charlton, Holidaysburg; and Dorothy Corden, Friedens. Also many loving nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved his farm. Member of UMWA for 30 years, having retired from Hisota Fuel. Also was an avid farmer for 68 years and worked for Latrobe Steel. Veteran of World War II, serving in New Guinea, Phillipines and Japan. Member of Company B 153rd Engineer Construction Battalion, Yokohama, Japan. Friends received for Mr. and Mrs. Charlton from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will be held for both at 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev.
