Christner, 84, died Monday, Sept. 8, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Shuck, in Larimer Township, after an illness of 10 months. Born April 29, 1863, he spent all of his life in Somerset County, employed as a school teacher and a mail carrier. A life-long member of the Church of the Brethren, Mr. Christner was awarded a medal for serving 50 years as a Sunday School officer. Mr. Christner was married three times - first to Sarah Deitle, who died 31 years ago. To this union were born nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Later he married Eleanor Weimer, who died 11 years ago, after which he married Etta Miller Mort. After she passed away, he made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, where he died. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Eli (Linnie) Weimer, Mrs. Milton (Mary) Shuck, Clarence C. and Walter C., all of Sand Patch; Miss Margaret and Miles E. of Johnstown, and Mrs. Joseph (Sadie) Lint, Holsopple. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister, Jonas, Torrington, Wyo., Rufus, Garrett, and Mrs. Ada Wetzel, Omaha, Nebraska, and 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a kind and loving father and is sadly missed. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon in St. John's Evangelical Church, White Oak, Rev. J. E. Jones of the Hostetler Church of the Brethren and Rev. A. F. Richards of the Evangelical United Brethren Church officiating. Pallbearers were Harvey and John Geiger, Harvey Petenbrink, Frank Bittner, William Mankamyer and Samuel Baer. Interment was made in the Church Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 18, 1947
