Washington the nineteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Christner of Garrett met death by accidently being electrocuted at his father's farm at about 5:30 o'clock on Tuesday evening. The young man was adjusting a broken electrical wire leading from the street to the barn. He climbed up along the side of the barn about ten feet and had taken hold of the electrical and a lightening rod on barn. Mr. Silas Deal noticed smoke escaping from the boy's glove and pulled him down. Death was almost instantaneous. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. W. B. Carney of the Lutheran Church Friday afternoon. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: George, Jacob, Harry, and Mrs. Edna Duecker, Katharine, and Edward all of Garrett. Washington was of excellent character and most dutiful to his parents. The funeral was in charge of Undertaker Tressler of Meyersdale. Sincere sympathy is extended to the family in their bereavement. Meyersdale Commercial, Mar. 30, 1916 --- MAN SHOCKED TO DEATH - Attempts to Remove Tangle of Electrical Wires; Grasps Lightning Rod - Washington Christner, aged nineteen, of Garrett, near Rockwood, Pa., was killed by electricity at his home. Young Christner climbed unto the barn to untangle two electric wires which had crossed above the barn door. Grasping the lightning rod with one hand, he endeavored to untangle the wires with the other and was shocked to death. Meyersdale Commercial, Apr. 6, 1916
