Born March 17, 1914, in Huntingdon County, son of Samuel H. and Rachael J. (Forman) Clapper. Survived by wife of 56 years, Lena R. (Carbaugh) Clapper; son, Samuel D. Clapper, married to the former Fern Snyder, Somerset; daughter, Susan R. Costantino, wife of Nicholas Costantino, Windber; grandchildren: Angie, Gina and Abby Costantino and Nick Costantino, Jr.; Mike Clapper, married to the former Lauri Manlove, Orlando, Fla.; Mark Clapper, Elizabethtown, and Lisa Clapper, Somerset; and brothers: Richard, married to the former Lexie Treece, Huntingdon; Robert, James Creek, and George William, married to the former Virginia Fornwalt, James Creek. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, James and Kenneth; and infant sister Ruth. Attended Juniata College. Retired after more than 50 years service with Social Security Administration, more than 30 years as a field representative in Somerset and Cambria counties. Served in the European Theater in World War II with Company A, 109th Infantry Regiment, 28th Infantry Division; twice wounded in action; received Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart and European African Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars. Member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Meek Funeral Home, Windber, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Jacquelyn DePhillips officiating. Interment, St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Russellville. Military Rites by local veterans organizations.
