Clark died at his home on Broadway at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, August 19. He had been ill and confined to his home for several months suffering from a heart ailment. He was born June 1, 1879, in Baltimore, the son of James and Bridget Clark. He came to Meyersdale many years ago and reared his family here. Due to failing health he retired several years ago as manager of the New Colonial Hotel grill and tap room. "Johnnie" Clark, as he was familiarly called, was widely known for his genial and friendly personality. He was kind and generous to the Nth degree and had a host of friends. He was an ardent Republican, and took a keen interest in local and county politics. He is survived by his wife, Anna Winters Clark, and these children: Francis, Cuyahoga Falls, O.; John T., Pittsburgh; Mrs. W. L. Stilson, Panama Republic; Mrs. Irving Purnell and James Brady Clark, Occaquan, Va., and Donald, at home. A brother, Leo Clark, of Baltimore, also survives. Funeral services will be conducted this (Thursday) morning at 9 o'clock in SS Philip & James Catholic Church, with the rector Rev. A. J. Bechtold officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Stilson and her husband arrived here from Panama, a few days before her father's death, on an unavoidably long postponed vacation. Meyersdale Republican, August 21, 1947
