Born Oct. 11, 1935, in Rockwood, the son of Charles Harvey "Eph" Clay and Helen Frances (Sembower) Clay. Preceded in death by parents; and sister, Jeanne Jones. Survived by wife, the former Janine Thomas to whom he was married for 16 years; children Douglas G. Clay, Somerset; Mrs. Dennis (Lisa) Park, Port Orange, Fla.; Mrs. Sandy (Kathy) Roberts, Bidwell, Ohio; step-children, Mrs. Christopher (Wendy) Nawn, Malvern; Brian R. Beck, Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Mrs. Heath (Janet) Bailey, Kelly Clay and Andrew R. Clay, all of Somerset; Clay Park, Port Orange, Fla.; step-grandchildren, Beth and Matthew Roberts, Rio Grande, Ohio; Alexander and Kevin Nawn, Malvern; and great-grandaughter, Torri J. Bailey. Brother of Nancy Ansell, Vermillion, Ohio. A 1954 graduate of Rockwood High School and received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry and physical education from Slippery Rock University. He worked as a school teacher for Turkeyfoot schools for one year, Rockwood schools for seven years and Somerset elementary and junior high schools for 27 years, retiring in 1992. Also a member of Somerset County Rails to Trails where he served on the board. Somerset County Parks and Recreation Board, Camp Rockwin, Laurel Rocks Club. Volunteered as a photographer for Laurel Hill, Kooser and Laurel Ridge state parks. He also enjoyed the outdoors and sports, coaching for Somerset and Rockwood where the kids knew him as "Pappy".
