His death was due to paralysis, which seems to have been brought on by a severe injury to his spine, caused by an accident which befell him while employed as a coal miner at Jenners about 15 years ago. Some years ago he also met with another accident while employed at mining, by which he was crippled to his dying day in one of his feet. Being mained for life through two bad injuries, Mr. Cochrane's health steadily declined until he was forced to give up all gainful employment, and only a short time before his death, became fatally paralyzed. However, he bore his afflictions courageously, seldom complained about his physical handicaps, and as long as he was able to do so, followed such gainful employment as he could find to do. Moreover, he was a man of good natural intellect, scrupulously honest, and the possessor of a very kind and courteous disposition toward all with whom he came in contact with. He was especially kind to his mother, a woman well stricken in years, and as helpful to her at all times as his physical condition would permit, until his feeble health finally overcame him. The father of the deceased was the late Robert Cochrane, a native of Scotland, who died about 10 or 12 years ago. In addition to his mother, John R. Cochrane is survived by four brothers, namely, David, of Salisbury, Clyde and Arthur, of Chicago, and Irvin of Patterson, N.J. He is also survived by two half-brothers, James of Salisbury, and William of Crosley, Wyo., and by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Seggie of Detroit, Mich. Mr. Cochrane was a member of the Reformed Church, the Knights of Pythias, and the Improved Order of Red Men. The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at the home of his mother, and was conducted by Rev. S. D. Sigler, the local Lutheran minister. The floral tributes were many, and very beautiful. The burial arrangements were in the hands of Funeral Director W. C. Price, of Meyersdale. Interment was in the Salisbury I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 17, 1931
