Colborn died at his home near the Jersey Church in Lower Turkeyfoot Township, on Monday, April 14, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 16 days. He had been afflicted for a long time with rheumatism. He was a son of Sylvester and Sarah Tissue Colborn and was born on the Colborn farm near Draketown, October 28, 1856. He was a descendant of Jersey pioneers being a great-grandson of Robert Colborn, one of the original settlers in Lower Turkeyfoot. On October 26, 1879, he married Mary Ellen Kreger. To them were born nine children of whom five survive, namely: Mrs. Dais Boughner, Jerome; Mrs. Elizabeth Stairs, at home; Mrs. Louise Beale, St. Mary's, W.Va.; Mrs. Mary C. Wills, Confluence, and William W. Colborn, residing near Confluence. He is also survived by his wife, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, two sisters - Mrs. Martha Colborn, South Brownsville, Pa., and Mrs. Elizabeth Hitchman, Weeping Water, Neb.; and one brother - Abraham Colborn, of Hardy, Neb. He was a member of the Church of God for 47 years and was a man always respected in the community in which he spent his long and useful life, and had been honored by his fellow citizens with most of the offices in the township. He also held the office of County Viewer. Mr. Colborn was a progressive farmer and dealt extensively in cattle for 50 years, and was favorably known among farmers and cattle dealers in Somerset County and also all over Garrett County, Md., and Preston County, W.Va. It is hard to give sufficient tribute to a man of James B. Colborn's character. He was strictly honest in all his dealings; he was a devoted husband and father and during his long life it is doubtful if he ever turned anyone down who asked him for a favor. He had a pleasing personality that not only made friends, but also retained them. His death is a loss to the whole community. He was a charter member of Pleasant Valley Lodge No. 72, of the Knights of Pythias, who turned out in a body and had charge of the funeral services. The funeral was held at the family home at 2 p.m., Thursday, Rev. J. H. Bush officiating. The pall-bearers, members of the K. of P., were H. L. Sellers, K. B. Lenhart, C. R. McMillan, Thomas Rodehaver, M. L. McClintock and J. C. Silbaugh. Interment in the Jersey Cemetery. Undertaker C. B. Humbert had charge of the funeral arrangements.
