He was born Jan. 7, 1913, in Somerset, a son of William A. and Jennifer Grace (Shoemaker) Coleman. Preceded in death by parents; three brothers, Lester, Earl and William Coleman; and sister, Ruth Jones. Survived by his wife, the former Martha Louise "Marty" Phillipy to whom he was married for 55 years; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Phillipy of Somerset and Elizabeth Coleman of Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. Member of St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 1931 graduate of Somerset High School, World War II veteran of U.S. Army, European Theatre. Manager of Somerset office of Columbia Gas of Pa., retiring in 1978, with 46 years of service. Charter member of the Somerset Kiwanis Club where he was a long time secretary, treasurer and past president; VFW Post 554 and Historical & Genealogical Society of Somerset County. No viewing or visitation. Memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m., Thursday, at St. Francis-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Fr. J. Mark Zimmerman officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
