Collins Jr. died Thursday, January 31, 1980 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Baltimore, Md. at the age of 78. Mr. Collins, a former resident of Meyersdale, was known by his many friends and associates as "Deacon Collins". He worked with his father, George Sr., in the shoe department of Miller and Collins Dept. Store for several years. The Collins family moved from Meyersdale to Baltimore, Md., in 1940, where George worked as a welder for a few years on the Liberty ships. Then, on November 11, 1944, he was employed as a salesman for Sears Roebuck and Co. and worked there until he retired on January 31, 1967. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mae, who passed away December 1969. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Susan Larsen, of Baltimore, Md.; Margaret Virginia Beard, of Hanover; two sons, George W. Collins, 3rd., of Jarrettsville, Md.; William Rowe Collins, of Armonk, New York; also several grandchildren and one great grandchild. Surviving also are two sisters, Lenore Collins and Margaret MacFarland, both of Topeka, Kansas. Funeral services were held at the Leonard J. Ruck Funeral Home, Inc., Baltimore, Md. with the Rev. Thomas Searfoss, of Bundary Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale. The Republic, February 14, 1980 [C0748]
