Born Aug. 30, 1921, in Brownsville, the son of Andrew and Margaret (Timko) Cone. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, John, Frank and Alex Cone; sisters, Irene Guy, Betty Gramata and Evelyn Cone. Survived by sister, Ann E. Hulsman, Chambersburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Pat Gary, Garrett. A 1939 graduate of Brownsville High School and U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a professional baseball player for the Boston Braves. He later graduated from California Teachers College and then received his master's from the University of Pittsburgh. Elmer worked as a school teacher for Salisbury and Turkeyfoot schools and later, Berlin schools, where he retired in 1983. He coached football, baseball and golf and enjoyed playing many sports, including basketball, golf, bowling and baseball. Also a 50-plus year member of American Legion Post 181, VFW Post 554 and FOE Aerie 1801. Friends received from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset, where a service will Immediately follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Roger Forry officiating. Interment Howe Cemetery.
