Cook, was laid to rest beside loved ones gone before, late last Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Cook passed away at her home on Broadway, at 6:45 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, lacking but one month of having attained the great age of 95. She had been blessed with uniformly good health during nearly all of her long life, but on Saturday, Oct. 27, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage which terminated fatally nearly a week later. During her advancing years she retained her mental faculties and was always interested in her domestic affairs and current events. Even after she was stricken she remained conscious a good part of the time and was able to recognize the members of her family and friends who called to see her, but was unable to converse with them in her friendly calm way as of yore. Born in Summit Township, near Meyersdale, she was one of the two children of John and Rachael (Saylor) Schrock. Her only brother, Elias Schrock, unmarried, passed away some years ago at an advanced age. Her husband, known familiarly to all who knew him as "Squire Cook," was a justice of the peace of Meyersdale and leading insurance agent of this section of Somerset County, for many years. He passed away 21 years ago. Mother Cook was also preceded in death by her eldest son, Harry M. Cook, founder and owner of Cook's Jewelry Store of Meyersdale until his death, and one daughter, Emma who was the widow of the late James H. Price, when she passed on several years ago. Surviving children of Mother Cook are two sons, Charles C. Cook, who since the death of his father, has been the head of the W. B. Cook & Son insurance agency established by the late Wm. B. Cook; and Robert Cook, justice of the peace, notary public and part owner of the Baldwin & Cook Shoe Shop, and three daughters, Lottie, wife of E. W. Cober of Wilkinsburg; Ida, wife of P. G. Cober of Somerset, and Miss Alice Cook, who lived with her mother in the family homestead and cared for her mother during her declining years. Mother Cook was greatly revered and loved by all who knew her. She was fond of company and was always a gracious hostess and interesting conversationalist. Surviving also are four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cook was a lifelong member of the Brethren Church. Impressive funeral services for her were conducted in her home at 4 o'clock last Sunday afternoon, by Rev. S. M. Whetstone, pastor of the Berlin Brethren Church, followed by interment in the family lot in Union Cemetery, under direction of W. C. Price & Son. Relatives and friends from far and near attended the obsequies. The floral tributes were exceedingly numerous and beautiful. Meyersdale Republican, November 8, 1945
