She was the wife of the Rev. Herbert Austin Cooper, her husband of 65 years who preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1999. Born March 22, 1912 in Brownsville, she was the daughter of the late Orville and B. and Martha F. Carter Younkins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Olive Younkins Higdon and brother-in-law Douglas Higdon. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her sons, Larry C. Cooper and wife Alice of Landenberg, and Lynn Cooper and wife Doris of Myersville, Md.; her grandchildren, Michael Cooper, and wife Melanie of Oakland, Md.; Douglas Cooper and wife Brigitte of New Market, Md., and Laura C. Love and husband Shawn of Nottingham; by her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jessica Cooper, both of Oakland, Md., and by her niece, Deanna Higdon Hebb and husband Ted of Iamsville. Over a 40 year span, Mrs. Cooper moved with her husband to various ministries within the Church of Brethren. They had lived in Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. While her husband was in the Seminary in Illinois, she attended Bethany Bible School and received practical nursing training at the Bethany Hospital in Chicago. She was past president of the Women's Fellowship at Brothersvalley, Barron Ridge and Pleasant View Brethren churches. She was junior choir director and member of the choir at the Brothersvalley Church. In addition, she organized and lead the Girls 4-H Club in Burkittsville; worked with the Church World Service Center in New Windsor, and in 1975 and 1979 organized trips to the Holy Lands. She was a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed her family and friends, church work and crocheting. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church St., Frederick, Md. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick. The Rev. Paul Mundey will officiate. Interment, Old Brownsville Church Cemetery, Brownsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701 or the charity of one's choice.
