Cordrey, 53, was found dead in a chair at his store, the Western Auto Accessories, Meyersdale, Friday morning, Jan. 7, about 9:30 by a relative. Death was caused by coronary occlusion. Mr. Cordrey was born in Baltimore, Dec. 21, 1889, the son of John D. Cordrey. At an early age he moved with his parents to Cumberland where he attended school. Later he was employed by J. D. Orrick and Son Company, wholesale grocers. About twenty years ago he came to Meyersdale to take charge of the Kenneweg Company after it was located here. For the past seven years he operated the Western Auto Accessories store on Center Street. In the first world war, Mr. Cordrey served in France for nine months and then was sent back to this country to become an instructor in gas tactics at an Army Camp in California. Mr. Cordrey is survived by his wife, Sadie (Purbaugh) Cordrey, and one daughter, Mary Catherine, an employee of the State Department of Agriculture at Harrisburg. He was a member of Charles E. Kelly Post, American Legion, and of the Lions Club. Funeral services were held at the Cordrey home, Beachley Street, at 2:30 Monday afternoon, with Rev. Thomas R. Thomas, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. During the hour of the funeral the business places of Meyersdale were closed. Interment was made in Union Cemetery in charge of W. C. Price and Son, morticians. The pallbearers were members of Charles E. Kelly post, American Legion, of which Mr. Cordrey was a past commander. Meyersdale Republican, January 13, 1944
