Costea, 79 of Somerset, was called home to the Lord, August 16, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 1, 1929 in Somerset, son of the late George and Matilda (Miller) Costea. Also preceded in death by stepfather, James Galico; sisters: Pauline Slingwine and Betty Genevieve "Jenny" Gabrys; and brothers: George H. and Nick A. Costea. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Bentz) Costea; children: Doreen Costea, Somerset; Michael Costea and wife, Karen, Friedens; and Mrs. Steve (Mary) Gerhard, Rockwood; grandchildren: Sarah and Matthew Costea and Noah and Kaleb Gerhard; stepsister, Ethel Pletcher, Somerset; and stepbrother, James Galico, Rockwood; also numerous nieces and nephews. He was member of First Christian Church, VFW Post 154, Somerset County and Greater Johnstown Coin clubs. He was employed for 45 and one-half years at the Edgewood Clover Farm and worked several years for the Somerset Candy Company. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a 1948 graduate of Somerset High School. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 1 in the First Christian Church, Somerset. The Rev. Daniel F. Nicksich and the Rev. John Barchey officiating. Interment in Saint John's Cemetery will be private. Contributions may be made to Somerset "In Touch" Hospice, 223 S.
