Born Dec. 2, 1922 in Somerset, the son of George Henry and Susan Matilda (Miller) Costea. Preceded in death by parents, step-father James Gallico, wife, the former Shirley Jane Hause who died July 10, 1995, and sisters Mary Pauline Slingwine and Betty Genevieve Gabrys. Survived by children: Jeffrey L. Costea, Ms. Michelle Weiss, and Keith D. Costea, married to the former Pamela Bittner all of Somerset; grandchildren: Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Jodi) Pugh Jr. of Somerset; Lori Costea of McGill, Nev.; Stephanie Weiss of Somerset, Shannon Weiss of Berlin; Amber and Cory Costea of Somerset; great-grandchildren: Ashley and Lacey Pugh, Cheyenne Thompson; 21 nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Nick A. Costea and wife the former Marge Kreger, and Frederick J. Costea and wife the former Joan Bentz, both of Somerset. Step-brothers and sisters: Ethel Pletcher of Markleton, Idella Hensel of Johnstown and James L. Gallico of Rockwood. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, W.W. II U.S. Marine Corps veteran in the Pacific Theater and one of the few remaining survivors at Iwo Jima. Owner and operator of the Edgewood Market for 48 years. A 1940 graduate of Somerset High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh for 2 years. Honorary member of Somerset Volunteer Fire Department. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Glenn E. Sadler and Rev. Dr. Arthur J. Gotjen officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. Contributions may by made to Somerset "In Touch" Hospice 1590 N. Center Ave., Suite 111 Somerset. PA 15501.
