Coughenour, 79, Salisbury RD 1, died Feb. 2, 1988, in VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va. Born Aug. 5, 1908, in Fairhope Township, a son of the late James and Eliza (Kendall) Coughenour. Preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Knieriem, in 1982. Survived by these children: Merle Jr., Dover, Del.; James D., Somerset; William E., and Richard D., both Salisbury RD l; Joseph D., Meyersdale; Marjorie Shuck, Friederick, Md.; Shirley Davis, Laurel, Md.; Patricia Rickley, Gary, N.C.; and Deborah Spangler, Jennerstown; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Member of Amity United Church of Christ. Veteran of World War II. Member of the Meyersdale V.F.W., Pa. Farmer's Association, former 4-H leader, former consistory member of New Hope United Church of Christ, former milk inspector for Dairy Dale Milk Company. Friends will be received in the Leckemby Funeral Home Thursday 7-9 p.m., and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Amity United Church of Christ, with the Rev.
