Coughenour, 66, of Dover, Del., died May 11, 2004, in his daughter's Middletown home. Born Feb. 16, 1938 in Johnstown to the late Merle R. Coughenour, Sr. and Hilda Coughenour. Also preceded in death by his wife Sandra McKenzie Coughenour, Nov. 1, 2000. He is survived by a son, Jason Coughenour of Dover; a daughter, Jennifer Cornell of Middletown; four brothers, James Coughenour of Somerset, William Coughenour, Richard Coughenour, and Joseph Coughenour, all of Salisbury; four sisters, Shirley Davis of Newnan, Ga., Margorie Shook of Somerset, Patricia Rickley of Keymar, Md. and Deborah Spangler of Jennerstown; two grandchildren, Maggie Cornell, age 2, and Jackson Cornell, 11 months, and many nieces and nephews. He retired in 1988 after 32 years as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After his retirement he worked as a maintenance representive for Eastern Airlines in the Boston and Washington area and was still employed with Evergreen International Airlines in Dover. Mr. Coughenour traveled extensively with the airlines and the Air Force. Mr. Coughenour enjoyed motorcycle riding, working on car engines, tending to his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed NASCAR and was a fan of Dale Eanrhardt Sr. Mr. Coughenour especially enjoyed spending time with his son and daughter and his two grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, in the Dover Air Force Base Chapel, II, Dover. Interment will be Byron Cemetery, Xenia, Ohio.
