Countryman, of Berlin R.D., died in the McGinnis Hospital, Ligonier, Thursday, August 5, after a short illness, having been stricken with a heart attack earlier in the day while walking with friends. Mr. Countryman was born in Brothersvalley Township, June 9, 1892, and was 56 years, one month and 26 days in age at the time of his death. He was a son of the late Harvey L. Countryman and Ellen Musser Countryman. He was educated in the public schools of Somerset County and the local normal schools for teachers. He chose farming as his life's vocation and was one of the leading farmers of the community. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin, of the Berlin Lions Club, Berlin Odd Fellows and Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, taking an active part in all these organizations. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Menges Countryman; his mother; a daughter, Geneva, wife of Ernest Leydig; two grandchildren, Jean and Dale Leydig; a sister, Mrs. Frances Maust, and a brother, R. Elwood Countryman, all of Brothersvalley Township. Mr. Countryman was a devoted son, a loving father and husband and an upright citizen and will be greatly missed. Funeral services at the Johnson & Son Funeral Home, were held Sunday, August 8, at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Robert S. Nagle officiating. Interment was made in I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
