Countryman were shocked to learn of his sudden death, about 1:15 Monday afternoon, while working at the Deeter Planing Mill. His sudden passing was due to a heart attack. John A. Countryman, aged 58, son of Ephraim and Lydia (Staub) Countryman, was born in Meyersdale, and was a lifelong resident of this place. He was engaged in various kinds of employment and accepted a day's work wherever he could get it. He frequently helped on busy days at the Deeter Planing Mill where he was working at the time of his death. He was apparently in good health throughout the morning and did not mention anything of being ill before he dropped dead soon after returning to work in the afternoon. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Etta (Zimmerman) Countryman, and these children: Norman L., a member of the U.S. Army, stationed in Virginia; Harry L., a member of the U.S. Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va.; Charles W., a member of the U.S. Navy; Jennie V. and Margaret A. Countryman Pletcher, both at home. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning in the Amity Evangelical and Reformed Church by Rev. Nelson Brown, pastor, assisted by Rev. B. A. Black, D.D., former pastor. Burial was in St. Paul's Cemetery in Elk Lick Township, under the direction of W. C. Price & Son, local morticians. Meyersdale Republican, June 5, 1941
