Countryman, 98, of Berlin RD 1, died June 25, 1983, at Somerset Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1896, in Brothersvalley Township, a daughter of William J. and Ellen (Miller) Menges. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jacob, who died in 1948; a daughter, a grandchild, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Geneva "Dolly" Leydig, Berlin RD 1; three grandchildren: Mrs. James (Jean) Ferguson, Berlin RD 4; Dale Leydig, Berlin RD 3; and Timmy Leydig, Gaithersburg, Md.; six great-grandchildren; also a foster daughter, Mrs. William (Victoria) Harrison, Jerome. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, the L.C.W., former member of Friendship Sunday School Class, also member of Second Society of Farm Women, Ladies Auxiliary of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, Berlin Senior Citizens, and Lady Berlin Rebeccka Lodge. Friends were received at the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, where services were held with the Rev. Kenneth S. Swanson officiating. Interment, Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
