"Big Red" Courtney, 51, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Somerset, died Aug. 7, 1980, at Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton. He was born Aug. 1, 1929, in Webster, son of Andrew J. and Hattie (Johnson) Courtney. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by these children: Mrs. Ronald (Crystal) Shroyer and Mrs. Walter (April) Shroyer Jr., both of Berlin RD 3; George Andrew II, of Somerset; Melanie Sue, Patrick and Shannon Amy, all of Bradenton, Fla. Also six grandchildren. He was a brother of Clarence, of Fla.; William L. of Monongahela; Mrs. Phoebe McElflesh and Mrs. Amy Harrison, both of Bradenton, Fla.; Mrs. Eddie Minno of West Newton. He was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force where he served for 21 years. He served in both Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the High Templars of the Air Force, Fraternal Order of Eagles 1801, Somerset, and was a Mason. Friends were received at, the Johnson-Kuhlman Funeral Home, Berlin. Funeral services were held at the Sarver Church, the Rev. Leonard Day officiating. Interment, Sarver Church Cemetery. The Republic, August 21, 1980 [C1043]
