The entire community was saddened by the news of the death of Homer K. Croner, Jr., lovingly known as "Budd", last Friday morning. He had been in ill health for more than a year. The first of this year he went to Oklahoma and Arizona, where he remained with his family for five months, hoping to regain his health. He returned to Berlin about May 1st, and shortly thereafter entered the Community Hospital at Somerset where he passed away June 18th. Everything a devoted wife and parents could do for his comfort and recovery was of no avail. A son of Homer K. and Edna Engleka Croner, he was born in Berlin on March 3, 1919, and lived 24 years, 3 months and 15 days. He is survived by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hay, a son, Ronald, and a daughter, Sara, and a sister, Helen, Mrs. Robert Lohr, of Jenner Twp. While his earthly life was short, it was useful, he having become an active partner in his father's hardware business upon his graduation from the Berlin High School. He was diligent and painstaking in the conduct of the business and in giving kind and courteous service to the patrons of the store as long as he was physically able to serve. He took an active interest in the affairs and welfare of the community. It may well be said of this young man that "none knew him but to love him, none named him but to praise", which was shown by the many beautiful floral contributions and friends who called. Funeral services were conducted at the Croner home, Monday afternoon, by Rev. John N. Bethune, pastor of the Trinity Reformed Church, assisted by Rev. N. V. Leatherman of the Brethren Church. Interment in the Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery under direction of the Johnson & Son Funeral Home. Meyersdale Republican, June 24, 1943
