Croner, 81, of Berlin died Feb. 9, 2001 at his residence. Born April 3, 1919 in Brothersvalley Township. Son of Joseph W. and Irma M. (Hauger) Croner. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold K. Croner and Earl D. Croner. Survived by wife of 60 years Helen S. (Schmucker) Croner and son Tommy R. Croner married to the former Bonnie Naugle Deem, grandson T. Richard Croner married to the former Glenda Smith, step-granddaughters Michelle Deem married to Jerry Blubaugh and Theresa Deem married to Brian Black; three step-great-grandchildren and a brother John W. Croner married to the former Betty Fike of Berlin. He received his B.S. in Animal Husbandry from Penn State University Class of 1940. Richard was owner and operator of a farm enterprise, T. Rich, Inc., and was active in the Berlin Lions Club and numerous community affairs. Served as former chairman of the board of directors of the Philson National Bank of Berlin, Agway Inc., and Curtice Burns Food. Other boards served on were ProFac Cooperative Inc., PA Potato Research Board, Penn State Advisory Committees and member of the Board of Pennsylvania Economic Partnership in 1987 under Gov. Robert Casey. Honors bestowed include Master Farmer, Honor Society of Agriculture, Who's Who in America, and Gamma Sigma Delta's Pennsylvania Farmer of the Year. Member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Berlin where he served as former deacon, elder and president of the consistory. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 10 a.m Tuesday with Rev. Melvin A. Kirk and Rev. Ralph G. Landis officiating. Interment, Berlin IOOF Cemetery.
