CUNNINGHAM Mrs. Bertha E. Cunningham, aged 69, died Wednesday morning at 3:30 o'clock at her home on West Main Street, Somerset. She was a daughter of Samuel and Harriet (Smith) Mier, both deceased. She is survived by one son, E. Allen Cunningham, of Somerset, and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Boucher, of Bedford, Pa. Mrs. Cunningham was a native of Salisbury. Her father was widely known as a gunsmith. He also served one term as a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and was justice of the peace in Salisbury Borough for many years. Her mother was a daughter of John Smith, a pioneer merchant and shook-maker of Salisbury. Miss Mier learned telegraphy when she was a girl and was in charge of the Western Union Telegraph office in Somerset for some years prior to her marriage to Mr. Cunningham, who was also a telegrapher, and who died several years after their marriage. Mrs. Cunningham was a woman of intelligence, culture and refinement of character, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She was an earnest Christian and was devoted to her church and her family and friends. She had been an invalid for several years. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Cunningham home in charge of Rev. Leonard H. Hoover, pastor of the Somerset Methodist Episcopal Church. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Somerset, in charge of Undertakers Brooks & Hauger. Meyersdale Republican, April 10, 1930
