Cupp, well known retired businessman of Somerset, and mother-in-law of Secretary of Internal Affairs William S. Livengood, Jr., passed away at 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 4th. Had she lived one day more she would have been 70 years old. Daughter of the late Samuel E. and Martha (Mitchell) Lakel, she was born May 5, 1875, in Addison. Forty-five years ago she was united in marriage with N. N. Cupp, who was reared on a farm in Somerset Twp., and was a school teacher in young manhood. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Cupp moved to Oxford, North Carolina, where Mr. Cupp was engaged in the lumbering business for many years before he returned to his native county with his family to make their home in Somerset where he was engaged in the feed and fertilizer business until his retirement several years ago. In June, 1944, Mrs. Cupp suffered a stroke of paralysis followed by lingering illness, finally resulting in her death. She was a devoted wife and mother and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. Surviving besides her husband are two daughters - Martha, wife of William S. Livengood, Jr., and Mrs. Elizabeth James, living with her parents since the recent death of her husband, John E. James; also a sister, Mrs. John W. Hester of Durham, N.C., and two grandchildren, Mrs. George E. Reedy at the present time living with her parents while her husband is serving overseas with the U.S. Army, and William S. Livengood, III, with the 12th airforce stationed in England. Funeral services will be conducted at the late residence on West Main Street at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, by the Rev. Galen R. Blough, pastor of the Somerset Church of the Brethren of which the deceased was a devoted member. Interment in Husband Cemetery in charge of Charles R. Hauger, mortician.
