He was born Sept. 12, 1930 in Confluence, a son of Isabella Hoover of Hutchinson, Pa., and the late Edward Custer. He is the stepson of Frank Hoover of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Charlotte; a son, Ted of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Zoe Schell of Seward, Neb.; and two grandchildren: Faith and Zion Schell. He is also survived by a sister, LaVerne Wright of Meyersdale RD 4; half-sister, Barbara Parks of Baltimore, Md.; and a stepbrother, Robert Hoover of Hutchinson. Mr. Custer was retired from 20 years of service to the U.S. Air Force and he was also retired from Square D. He was a member of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.) He attended Rockwood Schools. Graveside services were held Oct. 19 at Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, Neb., Rev. Gene Shattuck officiating. New Republic, November 11, 1993 [C1351]
