Custer, 82, Central City, died Sept. 10, 2004, at Somerset Hospital. Born June 3, 1922, in Central City, he is the son of John and Annie (Stutzman) Custer. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Frances Fields; second wife, Shirley Kimmel; sisters, Edith Kimmel and Gladys McVicker and a brother, Woodrow. Survived by his wife the former Lois Keller; daughter, Darlene married to Robert Hitechew, Radcliff, Ky.; son, Allen, married to the former Jean Landis, Central City; stepchildren, Kathy Lasko, Windber; Denise, married to David Custer, Somerset, Philip, married to the former Tresa Barkley, Somerset; grandchildren, David, Gregory and Michael Custer and Karen Piatt; stepgrandchildren, Ronald, Michelle and Rachel Lasko, Amy Romus, Melissa Boring, David Custer and Nicole Keller; great-granddaughter, Tessa and step great-grandchildren Casey Anne, and Ryan. He was a Shade Township supervisor for 36 years before retiring in 1990, and also was a self-employed cattle farmer. He attended the Central City Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed playing blue grass music on the mandolin and guitar and car racing. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Central City Assembly of God Church. The Rev. John Jackson and the Rev. Darryl Dawson officiating. Interment, Shade Church Cemetery.
