Custer had been missing from the institution since Nov. 4, but Coroner P. S. Dosch, who conducted an investigation, said the man had been dead only since Saturday. The coroner expressed the belief that Custer, weak and near exhaustion, fell as he was enroute to the home, and that he was unable to get up again. The coroner listed death as due to exposure and suffocation. The aged man has no known relatives and funeral services and burial took place at the county home. Authorities plan to continue their investigation in an effort to determine where Custer spent the time after walking away from the institution early in the month.
