CUSTER George William Custer, Jr., 64, Maple Street, Windber RD 2, died Dec. 16, 1987, at Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Conemaugh Township, son of George William Sr. and Florence Marie (Blough) Custer. He was preceded in death by father and one brother. He is survived by mother, Maple Mountain Manor, Bern; wife, former Betty J. Benson; and children: Deborah L., wife of Barrie Green, Vinco; Bonnie G., wife of Mark Driscoll, Johnstown; Brian E., married to former Cathy Knuff, and Kevin L., married to former Connie Mader, both of Windber RD 2; also seven grandchildren. He was a brother of Robert E., Rockwood; Marie King, Boswell; Betty Horner, Levittown; Esther Burkhart, Florida; and Catherine Corbett, Stoystown. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Richland; graduate of Conemaugh Township High School Class of 1942; Army veteran of World War II serving with 101st Airborne Division; member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Johnstown Inclines Good Sam Club; retired from rod and wire division of Bethlehem Steel Corp.; avid hunter and fisherman. Friends were received at George E. Mason Funeral Home, Davidsville. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Leventry Road the Rev. David Youngdahl.
