  CUSTER
  
  John Shank Custer, 87, Lambertsville Road, Stoystown, died Sept. 7, 1999 at
  Somerset Hospital.  Born Dec. 31, 1911 near Shanksville, son of Frank J. and
  Carrie (Shank) Custer.  Preceded in death by parents, brother, Kenneth and
  sister, Betty Walker Cotter.  Survived by wife of 62 years, the former
  Thelma R. Miller; son, Dr. Karl D. Custer, married to the former Judith
  Evans, Winchester, Va.; grandchildren, Clayton and Becky Custer,
  Winston-Salem, N.C., Marsha and Peter Landry, Chesapeake, Va., and Jonathan
  Custer, Winchester, Va.; great-grandchildren Sarah and Drew Custer, and
  Madison Grace Landry.  Brother of Gladys Wilt, and Richard and Robert
  Custer, all of Stoystown.  Graduate of Shanksville grade school and
  Stoystown High School.  Retired from Conemaugh and Blacklick Railroad after
  38 years.  Member of Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle.  Family will receive
  friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where
  service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday.  Rev. Chauncey Ickes and Rev.
  Gary Anderson.  Interment, Walker Cemetery, Shanksville.
