  Kenneth C. Custer, 86, of Berlin, died March 3, 1997, at Somerset
  Hospital.  Born Aug. 1, 1910, in Fairhope.  Son of Samuel and Clara
  (Kennell) Custer.  Preceded in death by parents; his wife, the former Edna
  Engleka; brothers, Leonard, John, Russell and Melvin; granddaughter, Joyce
  Eileen Custer.  Survived by sons: Donald O., married to former Nancy
  LaBute, Berlin, and Thomas E., married to former Anna Quiroz, of
  Springfield, Va.  Grandchildren: Jane Countryman and Jill Wagner, Michael
  Custer, Marcie Karl and Sarah Custer.  Great-grandchildren: Alex
  Countryman, Michael Edward and Katherine Brooks Custer.  Sisters: Phyllis
  Hoppert and Evelyn Baughman, both of Berlin; Leone Miller, Jerome; Faye
  Saylor, of Chantilly, Va., and Helen Miller of Somerset.  Retired coal
  miner.  Member of UMWA.  Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
  Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 11
  a.m. Thursday, with Rev. Ralph G. Landis officiating.  Interment, Berlin
  IOOF Cemetery.
