Custer, 97, of Central City RD 1, died July 24, 1986, at Windber Hospital. He was born May 21, 1889, in Shade Township, son of the late Henry Harrison and Barbara (Spangler) Custer. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Bessie Orris; infant son Joseph; daughters, Marie Small and Erma lack; three sisters and three brothers. Survived by these children: Mrs. Nellie Small, with whom he resided, Mrs. Ida Leppert, Kermit, married to Ellen Duppstadt, all of Central City RD 1; Mrs. Jeanette Frazier, Berlin RD 1; Mrs. Margaret Meals of Stone Mountain, Ga.; Mrs. Charles (Edna) Robinson of Winter Garden, Fla.; Mrs. Virginia McKee, Grove City; Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Penrod of Windber; Mrs. George (Marian) Evans of Walkersville, Md.; 42 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. He was a former coal miner, blacksmithy and well driller. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, the Rev. Millard H. Weaver. Interment, Berkey Cemetery.
